I'm back from our Michigan trip. It was great to get away, but 2000+ miles is a lot to drive. I'll be happy to stay out of the car for a bit now. Our trip to the Upper Peninsula was severely affected by the wild fire smoke. As much as I was sad that we couldn't do all the fun outdoor things I had planned (backpacking, hikes, kayaking, etc.), I am even more sad to think of all the devastation these fires are causing in Canada. My heart
goes out our Canadian friends and to those affected by the extreme smoke. I'll be hoping for rain and weather conditions that support fire suppression!
Despite having to turn this trip into mainly an indoor affair in an area that is normally so beautiful to appreciate outdoors, we did have fun, and we did get to enjoy being together. If all my pictures look hazy, well, that's how it was. We wore N95s most of the time we were outside.

Little Squirrel Yarn Monthly Colorway!
|
Sarah brought in this month's sock set colorway. The color for July is Citrus Splash, a delightfully bright and happy mix of fun hues for summer I just love the teal and orange together. It brings me joy! We have it in Fingering and DK. It's gorgeous.

Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl
|
SAVE THE DATE!!! The Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl runs August 1-9 this year. All shops will be open at least 10-5 EVERY DAY between August 1-9. It's about a week shorter than in past years, but you still have 2 full weekends to complete the crawl. It's HAK's Sweet 16 celebration. You won't want to miss out! There are some super 'sweet' extras, and the mini skeins this year are beautiful.
What do we have planned? - Little Squirrel Yarn Trunk Show August 1-2
- Necessary Pancakes Trunk Show August 1-2 (Bags will stay the full week but Lizz will only be there Saturday & Sunday)
- Twice Sheared Sheep Trunk Show August 1-9 (no TSS representative - purely an abundance of products, some of which we don't currently carry!)
- Door Prizes and a Grand Prize from each shop for completing the full crawl!
- We're
still pondering other fun things - but there will be snacks and community to enjoy!
Each shop has their own events, so check out the HAK Website, gather up some friends and get your road trip planned!

My July Project for Camp Loopy - Moon Moth by Natalie Meredith didn't get as far as I wanted - you would think I would have gotten more done, having to stay inside. Sadly, as the adult on the trip, I had to make all the plans and get everyone where we needed to go. AND, all told, we had about 2,200 miles of driving. I have completed the main body and finished the back. Now just the front, the sleeves and the collar. I can
do that in 10 days, right? As always, I LOVE The Uncommon Thread Merino DK, which is what I am using on this project.
I also started our store sample for the miniskeins that will be available for the Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl. I was going to do some colorwork, but the contrast just wasn't there, so I'm doing a very simple cowl, that makes Dawn with MakerWool's colors the real stars of the project. The pattern is The Simply Scrappy Cowl by Helen Stewart. It's simple enough for your knitting group, but pretty enough to keep you engaged.
Have an excellent and creative week! Kristine and the Loopy Ewe Crew
